Ozone from air purifiers
January 07, 2006
The problem with ozone generating air filters is that ozone is thought to be harmful to humans. Ozone is thought to kill viruses and mould, so some air purifiers produce ozone to help purify the air.
High levels of ozone are thought to cause throat irritation, coughs, aggravation of asthma, chest pain, shortness of breath and inflammation and decreased capacity of the lungs. To prevent the harmful effects of ozone produce by some air purifiers now use additional technology such as OzoneGuard found in Sharper Image purifiers. OzoneGuard is a technology from Engelhard that turns most of the harmful ozone into oxygen.
